The purpose of swivels in fishing is to stop your line twisting and connection of rigs and traces to your line.Swivels like sinkers work best if you go for the smallest you can get away with.
TYPES OF SNAP SWIVELS:
Double lock snap
As you can see there are a few to choose from but the main two are Crosslock snap and the Interlock snap.
Snap swivels are great for trolling lures.
TYPES OF SWIVELS:
Once again there are a few to choose from but the main two are Ballbearing swivels for bluewater fishing and Rolling swivels for everything else.
SPLIT AND SOLID RINGS:
There are two types of rings used in fishing.
TYPE ONE: SPLIT RINGS
Split rings are put on lures to make it possible to fit and change the hooks and also useful for making rigs. When buying split rings be careful, there are alot of different types of rings and a few of them are badly made with cheap steel these one’s will rust and straighten out. So in this case always by the most expensive ones.
Solid rings are used to connect rigs to your main line and to rig up jigs properly, they are strong therefore most effective offshore or heavy line fishing, they are usually made of brass or stainless steel, by the way the stainless one’s are alot stronger.
The purpose of using sinkers is to help get your bait down to where the fish are, or to enable you to cast your line. Most sinkers are made of lead and the GOLDEN RULE of sinkers is to USE JUST ENOUGH LEAD TO DO THE JOB, NO MORE.
TYPES OF SINKERS:
Star sinker / Best for surf fishing on a sandy bottom.
Barrel sinker / Good allround sinker will do most types of fishing.
Snapper sinker / Good for deep sea fishing with a paternoster rig.
Bomb sinker / Great little sinker to use with bait jigs.
Split shot sinker / Good for fishing with little or no current or fishing with floats.
Ball sinker / Good general all round sinker.
All sinkers come in a variety of sizes, REMEMBER LESS IS MORE WITH SINKERS.
